In 1904, Congregation Sons of Israel was formed in Asbury Park, and this synagogue has remained a vital part of the Jersey Shore community for more than a century. In 1984, Rabbi Yosef Carlebach was appointed spiritual leader, and since 1989, regular synagogue and community services have been held in the Hillel Yeshiva Building Complex in Wayside, N.J.
This historic ceremony will take place on Friday, Nov. 27, at 11:00 A.M. at the construction site, Poplar Place, Wayside, N.J. (behind the Hillel Yeshiva at 1025 Deal Road, Wayside, N.J. Noted community leaders, government officials and Shul members and supporters are expected to attend this historic event. Brunch will be served.
The expected community leaders include Bill Larkin, Mayor of Ocean Township, Rabbi Leib Groner, Secretary of the Lubavitcher Rebbe, Rabbi Menachem M. Schneerson, and Congressman Frank Pallone.
Rabbi Yosef Carlebach, , stated, “We are excited and thrilled to have reached this important milestone .As we begin this exciting new project, we are cognizant of the important work that has been accomplished in Monmouth County and in central and south New Jersey over the past 100 years, and we recognize our responsibility of increasing our program and activities in the future. This new edifice will enable our synagogue to service our young men and women, and families, with a combined 15,000 sq. ft. facility. We invite the entire community as we dedicate this new complex.”
